USM College Member Torres Named 2022 Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Visible Arts Award Winner

very best writers, artists, and musicians by bestowing awards in artistic fields. This
12 months, Jennifer Torres, professor and 3D Space Coordinator in The College of Southern
Mississippi’s (USM) Artwork and Style and design plan, housed in the University of Accomplishing and Visible Arts, received an award in the Visual Arts category
for her piece entitled, Yard Boats for Osage Park.

“Professor Torres is a distinguished artist whose trajectory spans an spectacular range
of achievements. Her function in sculpture has been exhibited close to the nation and is
an inspiration for our college students in their have operate. I am honored to give my congratulations
to Professor Torres for this prestigious award on behalf of the MIAL,” stated Dr. Chris
Winstead, Dean of the University of Arts and Sciences.

Torres and the other winners will be honored at the 43rd Anniversary Awards Gala in
Jackson, Skip., on June 11 at the Mississippi Museum of Artwork. All nominees and winners
will be honored at a reception prior to the banquet.

perform hard as an artist and professor. To be so acknowledged by these an esteemed business
demonstrates that really hard operate pays off.”

Torres also reflected on the integral role that USM performed in her progress as an
artist. “Over the many years only a few from USM have been honored and am humbled that
I have been preferred to sign up for these types of a venerated group.”

“An award like this is also essential for the learners to see,” Torres added. “Never

The public artwork Backyard Boats, impressed by the curving strains of the paths in the park, is completely mounted
at Osage Park in Bentonville, AR.

Torres commenced her studio training at the Artwork Pupils League in New York Metropolis. She
went on to earn a BFA at the Cooper Union and an MFA in Sculpture from the University
of Ga in Athens. She has labored in metal fabrication, casting, woodworking and
images, and qualified as a cabinetmaker in New England. She has formerly been given
numerous awards which include staying selected for a very-aggressive 2020 Mississippi
Visual Arts Fellowship and named as the Artistic Researcher of the Calendar year at USM’s College
of Arts and Sciences.

“We are thrilled to celebrate our proficient Mississippians — remarkable artists,
writers, and musicians that make our condition a greater spot,” explained Sarah Frances Hardy,
President of the board of the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters.

This prestigious college of awards was to start with built in 1980 and is offered in 9
groups: Fiction, Non-fiction, Youth Literature, Visible Art, Audio Composition
(Classical), Audio Composition (Up to date), Images, Poetry and Everyday living Creating.
At the organization’s discretion it at times provides a distinctive, lifetime, or
occupation achievement award.

The MIAL juried level of competition is one particular-of-a-form in the condition, as recipients are cautiously
